It had been ages since I updated anything on here, and then I had to change providers. So I’ve reloaded all the old posts, but haven’t relinked the images again. Not sure I will or not. I’ll see if i get that bored.

Drop me a line. Say hello!

Was up bright and early this morning. Dunno why, it’s freaking miserable out there today. Did some washing, and caught the train to Wollongong. Down visiting my parents for Fathers Day.

Man it’s a miserable day. Right now sitting in front of the heater, and just hearing the rain on the roof. Gotta love colourbond roofs. Love the sound of rain beating down on it.

Yeah I’ve been pretty busy. Other next week or so, I’ll do this year, and then hopefully, no promises mind you, that I will try and be more up to date from now on :)

Yeah right, like that will happen, but we shall see!

October

Bathurst 1000 (7 October)

Decided to head off to Bathurst for Australia’s premiere motor race. Wow, what a police presense. The black gestapo (ie. the riot and public order squad) was out in force. Seriously these guys look straight out of starlinist russia, or nazi germany. Black jackboots, black cargo pants, and black shits. They look nasty, and play nasty.

There were sniffer dogs out in force everywhere, and they were confiscating alcohol from people going up to the top of the mountain. It led for a very quiet, tense atmosphere this year. The fun police were well and truley out in force.

They even banned the traditional run out onto the track once the race is over. But that went very quickly once 100,000 people decided to jump the fence. That was nice to see :)

The race itself was awesome. I really enjoyed it. Watching Ford win this year was a dream come true for me. I was a happy man on the way home after this :)

Cat Empire Metro (16 October)

Man I love these guys! They rock! They are heaps of fun! The new album rocks, and it was an awesome night.  We stood up the back of the metro, with a great view of the stage. It made my night complete!!

The photo’s are very shit though. LOL

Napurs Birthday at Christines (20 October)

Was a fun night. We played boxhead. Which is one of many varients of the same drinking game. We all enjoyed it immensly. Was great catching up with the guys we have meet at the various events over the last 12-18 months :)

November

Arj Barket at Enmore (2 November)

Tonight was fun. Caught with friends at the Duke Hotel (it was pissing down with rain), before going and watching Arj Barker. Man this guy makes me laugh. It’s very much california stoner humour, but he is a lot of fun. He spends alot of time in Australia, and I love hearing an outsiders interpretation of us.

Diagnosed with Diabetes

There is so much I could write about this, but it is now part of my life, and I’ve just had to deal with it. I was diagnosed with Type II diabeties, and looking at the physical size it’s not very suprising. I think it has to be the most misunderstood disease going around. I never understood the implications of it, and how much damage it can do to the human body. It’s a terrifying disease.

I will write more about this as time goes on, but hence to say it’s extremely treatable, and can be kept under control. Luckily for me, it was court early. I didn’t ignore the symptoms when they first started, and because of that I’m in good stead not to have alot of the horible consequences of the disease.

Seriously if you have the symptons or even if you don’t. Go get a Hba1c test done the next time you are at the doctors. It could save your life!!

Sculpture By The Sea (10 November)

Held each year on the cliffside walk between Bondi and Tamarama Beaches. Some pretty interesting stuff. Enjoyed the plesant walk, and the weather was awesome :)

December

Festival of the Sun (14 December)

Hmm I had been looking forward to this one after last years effort. This year we were going up a day earlier, as to get more time to enjoy and relax. We were assured we could get in on the thursday, but it didn’t turn out to be the case.

I did really enjoy it again this year, but someone who will remain nameless decided to have it in for me, and to this day I still don’t understand what/if anything that we did to create this. It made what was an awesome weekend have a sour note. I will say it here, I don’t like upsetting people. If i do upset people, I expect them to have the balls to actually tell me why, and atleast give me a chance to remedy it. I hate the feeling of hopelessness I get when I don’t understand the reason behind something.

The bands were great, most of the people we were hanging around with were awesome once again!! I have nothing but fondness for the time I get to spend at FOTSUN. It’s great fun, and the atmosphere is awesome. There is no other festival in Australia that is like this. Where else can you sit on your own esky, and watch bands play with the beach just over the hill! Bliss!

Daft Punk (22 December)

OMG. I waited so long for this day to come. It was to be the event of my life time. Daft Punk had never been to Australia to tour, so this was a damn long time coming. I will preface this. This was the most poorely organised dance event I have ever been to. I’ve seen 300 people bush doofs better organised than this.

The rest of the day was SHIT! I’m not kidding. Main gripes!

  • Massive lines to get in.
  • Absolutely Shit Sound System for most of the day.
  • Once in the front fenced off area (no bathrooms, water or other facilities)
  • People not wanting to leave the front area, cause once you left it you couldn’t get back in.
  • People pissing in bottles and throwing them at people.
  • Line up of mundane acts boring the shit out of people all day (only exception was ‘The Presets’)

Once daft punk actually started. All was forgiven. The show was incredible. I know this is was pretty much all pre-done, but it looked, and sounded amazing. I can’t believe how good it was after the day of shite you had to suffer through to get to this point.

Christmas Eve (24 December)

Made my way to Wollongong to see friends/family. Tonight I had dinner with Steve, Alexia and Yvonne. Had a lovely Thai meal, and then went to the Illawarra hotel. OMG that place has changed. The dive that I use to hang out at when i was 18 has been replaced with a more up market, and nicer looking hotel.

I kinda miss the old place, but it’s been done with a more older crowd in mind. The drinks are more expensive that most of places in Wollongong so it keeps out the 18 year old student market, so you end up with a crowd that isn’t in there to just get wasted. Had a great evening, other than a bar chick who was so far up herself. So I told her exactly what I thought.

The next time the glassy came past our table he had a free beer for me. ‘We have been waiting for someone to tell her off’.

Was so nice seeing good friends.

Shorething with Groove Armada (31 December)

New Years Eve, Bondi Beach & Goove Armada. What is there not to like about it. The weather was perfect, nice and warm. The atmopshere was electric, and was around some good friends. It was a great way to bring in the new year, and it was so hassle free getting there, and getting home again. I was plesantely suprised. Sitting on the beach at 4am in the morning, listening to the waves, and just relaxing after an awesome night was just bliss.

July

Was pretty damn quiet. Pretty much was hibenating for the winter :)

4 & 5 August – Byron Bay for Splendour

This was a weekend mixed with extreme excitement, and also some sadness. A few days before the drive up to splendour, Neil’s grandmother passed away. So it changed our plans some what. Carolyn & myself drove up on the Thursday while Neil was going to join us saturday morning by plane. With Ricky meeting us on the friday after he drove down from Brisbane.

The road trip was run. I didn’t know Carolyn very well, and it gave us a chance to get to know each other. What can I say, she is one awesome chick. Had a great trip up, swapping the driving, and talking about bands we like, and places we have have travelled, and where we would like to go.

We relaxed on the friday getting some supples and just relaxed, and soaked up the vibe. Ricky showed up that night, and we had a few drinks, and talked and got to know each other.

Saturday morning, we went and picked up Neil from the Airport, and headed on in. Poor Neil was out of sorts, and forgot his ID. Had a long trip back to Lennox Head to pick it up. I just wandered around the Splendour site, and enjoyed the vibe and the people. It was before all hell broke loose, and we got right in to the bands. It was freaking awesome.

First Day Pretty much went like this:

Editors, The Beautiful Girls, Cat Empire, Grinspoon, Kaiser Cheifs and Then Powderfinger (don’t quote me, it’s just the way I remember it)

Sunday

Kisschasy, Spiderbait, The Shins, Hoodoo Gurus, Bloc Party and Artic Monkeys

It was the most amazing weekend. And it would be so easy to do it all again!

CIMG1260.JPGCIMG1267.JPG

Said good bye to Ricky, who drove back to Qld to catch a flight back to work in the morning. He was trashed as, and felt quite sorry for him :D

After the festival, had a nice couple of relaxing days around byron bay before heading home. Its one of my favourite places in Australia that is for sure.

NZ Trip (August 23rd – 27th)

Managed to Get cheaparse airfares to NZ again. So decided to have a quick trip over there, and just have a relaxing time. It worked out to be awesome. A mixture of skiing, sightseeing, catching up with old friends, alot of drinking, soaking at Hanmer Springs, and some awesome scenary.

I don’t know what it is, but I can never get enough of NZ. It’s just such an amazing place, and I just love going there. There is no other way to describe it, other than it feels like home!

September

Apec (2-9 Sept)

The week Sydney turned into a Miltarized Zone. There is so much I could say about this week, but most of it has been said else where. I do have a few things to say though. How dare this state government think they can make criminals out of there citizens. It proved to me how easy it is for government to revoke the rights of their citizens when they see fit. It’s not something I want to see again.

I couldn’t tell you how pissed off this week made me.

Neils House Party (

Neils parents were off on holidays, so he had a little get together. It wasn’t huge by any means, but it was a awesome evening. Heaps of drinking, chatting, and just carrying on like twits. It was meant to be a warm weekend, then APEC came to town, and it ended up being freezing cold. So we were outside shivering in the cold.

Highlight of the evening, was everyone looking for something that was misplaced. It ended up being in buch of boxes next to the back door. Everyone spent hours looking, and you know how you get after looking for a while, you end up checking places that it wouldn’t be in a million years, but it was funny watching everyone trying :)

Earth Dance & Nine Inch Nails & Michael Died (16 Sep)

Hmmm. How come they keep runing the best events that Sydney have. Earth Dance use to be a bring an esky, with your mates, and get wasted, and do some dancing in between time. The authorities said no, we can’t let you have fun. So this year, it was fenced in, fully licensed with a heavy policy presense. The atmopshere was runined. To pay for the fencing and all the extra security they advertised heavily. So the fluro kids showed up, and ruined the entire fucking day.

WELL DONE! YOU FUCKING GOVERNMENT TOSSERS!

Left Earth Dance, way earlier than we normally would, and hung around at home. That night headed off to Nine Inch Nails at the Horden. Haven’t seen them in years, and I tell you what, they don’t dissappoint. It was a full on assult on the senses. The set was seamless, and just keep the excitement up. The crowd was amazing. I’ve never seen such a massive cross section of people in my life. From the fetish fanatics, to the goths, to the cute little emo’s, to just long term fans all mixed in together, having an awesome time.

Then disater struck. About 3/4 of the way through the show I got an SMS. My long term mentor, and closest friend Michael had been struck down by a heart attack and died. Aged 58. It completely floored me, and now nearly 12 months later, I’m still missing him so much, and still hurts me to this day.

Park Life (30 Sept)

After last years Parklife, I was really looking forward to this one. Shame I was bitterly dissapointed. They had increased the size of the festival. From 20,000 to 35,000. Sure they increased the area, but they really went down on the acts.

Digitalism were the highlight for me, and they were freaking amazing. The rest was really so so. You know at the end of the day, when you want to end on a complete up. Well there was absolutely nothing worth watching. Justice were ok, but they doing a highly technical set, that was so choppy you couldn’t dance to it.

The day ended up being just a complete let down, and a waste of money. FUCK YOU FUZZY I’m not going to another parklife / field day again!

Time for Part II. Let see what I got up to next :)

9th Apr 2007 The Great Escape at Newington Armoury

It was easter time, and ended up going to a 3 day festival held in Western Sydney. It’s a bit out of the way at the back of the Olympic site, and as a consequence it gets a really cool crowd to it. You had the option of camping or being just a day visitor. We chose the later as it’s a 10 minute walk to redfern station from my place, and there was express trains to Olympic park.

Some friends that we made at festival of the sun were there, and we made some new ones as well. It was a seriously chilled festival, with a country feel to it. Plenty of places to eat, heaps of bars, and no lines. How do every other festival get it so wrong. I didn’t see one fight, or bad attitude the whole time i was there. There was always two stages going at once with overlap, so you actually got a chance to check out other acts, instead of spending all day racing around to the ones that you wanted to see.

Why aren’t more festivals like this!!!

Highlights of the weekend were, John Butler Trio, Wolf Mother, The Living End, Blue King Brown, The Bird, and The Roots. So looking forward to going to this festival again :)

25th Apr 2007 Anzac Day Sydney

It has been a while since i had gone into the city on Anzac Day. We caught up with some people we met a Port Mac and The Great Escape. It was a great day, started off at the ‘Lord Nelson Hotel’ at Millers Point around Lunch time, and ended up in Cheers bar by about midnight. All very drunk, all had a lot of fun, and that’s the way days should be :)

28th Apr 2007 My Birthday at Newtown

Why do i have to keep getting older. I have to admit though, it was such a pleasant night. Good friends, good food, and then chilaxing afterwards. Could you really want more for your birthday. Oh and for a change my birthday was on a weekend :)

Bliss

CIMG1103.JPG

7 May 2007 Dylan Moran at State Theatre

This was my birthday present from Neil. Fuck this guy can make me laugh. If you have no idea who I’m talking about, do a search on You Tube.

19 May 2007 Walk at South Head & Watsons Bay

I was going a bit stir crazy, and needed to get out of the house. Went for a drive down to south head, and then walked around. It’s so nice down here. Right on the opening to Sydney harbour. The weather was beautiful. I nice balmy autumn day. We ended up having a couple of beers, and food afterwards at a pub at Watsons Bay, and watched the sunset across the harbour. Simply bliss :)

CIMG1115.JPG

20 May 2007 Sydney Park St Peters

It was a lovely afternoon, so grabbed some food, alcohol and a blanket, and went for a walk 30 minutes up the road from my place. To just relax, go for a walk, and watch the sun go down. We had a bit of enhancement which made it even more fun. Was relaxed, and a bit scattered, but it was worth it :)

CIMG1144.JPG

10 Jun 2007 Armin Van Buuren at Homebush

Went and saw the dutch Trance Master at Homebush. It was an interesting night. It wasn’t as fun as I was expecting, but you get that from time to time. Most people weren’t dancing, but were standing around. It wasn’t the kind of crowd I was expecting. This event would of been alot better in the city rather than out at homebush. Would of attracted a raver crowd, rather than the Leb boys posing kind of crowd. Damn shame really, cause the music was fucking amazing.

CIMG1182.JPG

15 Jun 2007 OMG it finally started to rain again in Sydney

This might not seem like a huge event, but seriously it had been that fucking long since it rained, it was so awesome to see it!

CIMG1189.flv

23 Jun 2007 Bathurst to visit Sherms

Met a legend of a man when i was in Port Mac for festival of the sun in decemeber. Well we kept threatening to visit him in bathurst. So we did. It was a great weekend. Although we waited outside to get into the uni bar, only for the temperature to drop to -9 deg C. Fuck it was cold. We finally gave up, and went back to his place instead and just relaxed with some green. It was great fun, and we always have fun when we see him. Can’t wait to do it all again :)

CIMG1204.JPG

Feb 8

I know it’s been about 18 months since I written anything meaningful on here. I could make a big ramble about how I was over it, and carry on like a twit & a half, but honestly I just couldn’t be fucked writing anything :)

So here’s the run down of the last 12 months. I’ve been damn busy, and there has been a fair few changes. So I’m just going to focus on the good stuff, cause the rest is just background noise.

I’m going to call it “The Year of the Festival”

Quick Run Down

17 Dec 2006 Festival of the Sun Port Macquaire

OMG. This was awesome. Imagine 3000 people, a caravan park, people in tents, 20 aussie bands over two days, BYO alcohol (as long as it wasn’t in glass). There was one word to describe this festival. “Loose”. Made a tonne of new friends, and was simply amazing. Oh I forgot to mention is rained so damn hard my tent flooded, and I ended up sleeping in a mates car (wasn’t my tent, but it was playing chinese water torture with my face). It was an incredible time. It went so fast, but also seemed like it last forever :)

CIMG3121.JPG

31 Dec 2006 Shorething at Bondi Beach

This was another amazing night. I got to see my favourite dance act. ‘BASEMENT JAXX’. The weather was awesome, the atmosphere was amazing, and once again I was around people I didn’t really know. Yes my mate Matt who i went with, ran off in the first 20 minutes to do whatever it is he does. So I just danced like an idiot, and relaxed and tried to forget about the bad stuff that went on the rest of the year.

It was the first time I’d seen Basement Jaxx in a life gig, with full band on stage, and singers. Was so use to seeing DJ sets from them. It was nice to see them in band mode, instead of producer mode. It had been so long since I’d seen them. The night was so awesome :D It had been raining all day, then an hour before I was due to get ready, it stopped, and the clouds opened up. Bliss!

17 Feb 2007 Good Vibrations Music Festival

This was another good day. It was held in beautiful centennial park in Sydney. It was really packed, and really warm! Went along with Neil, and the idea was to meet up with a whole bunch of our other friends, and spend the day with them. Well we realised very quickly that this wasn’t going to happen. Mobile phones didn’t work because there were too many people all with the same idea. Mine was the only phone that was still working (yes i’m with Telstra) problem was I couldn’t get through to anyone else.

The music was good. Finally got to see J5, and Timo Mass.

CIMG0721.JPG

3 March 2007 Mardigras Party

Went to mardigras this year. It was pretty good fun. Although the music was absolutely crap! Think Diva Crap in one hall, and really boring Electro Crap in another. Like hello, I was electro to go away so badly. I’m so damn sick of music almost peaking then dropping into some boring inocuus beat that goes for hours. How hard is it to have good music! People can’t honestly like it that way??! Like really?!

Was nice catching up with friends and the like. Although it can get a bit much as well. I’m glad I don’t hang around the scene all the time. By the end of the night, I always remember why I take a back seat with it.

17 March 2007 Future Music Festival Randwick Racecourse

Simply this was the best dance music festival I went to in the past twelve months. It was freaking amazing. The line was awesome, the crowd was more relaxed. It was a bit wet from rain, but that kept the tossers, and princesses out of the damn way, and left the hardcore clubbers up and raring to go.

With a line up like Carl Cox, Fedde Le Grande, & OMG Ferry Corsten, it made it an amazing day. The 3 hours I spent in Godskitchen watching Ferry spin up his new stuff, plus athems was amazing. I wish I could go back there and do it all again. I was too silly not to bring a camera, but it some ways that would of detracted from the experience. It’s nearly 12 months on, and I’m still in a giddy state just thinking about it. I’m amazed the effect music has on me!

24 March 2007 Trip to Wollongong

Made a short side trip to Wollongong to visit friends and family. Took some photo’s from the lookouts from the escarpment.

CIMG0773.JPG

31 March 2007 Relaxing Day in the Royal National Park

Took some time out to just relax and unwind in the National Park. It was a great day. Seriously enjoyed it, and it’s something i’ve done a few times since. You can tell from the photo’s what it was like. It’s beautiful down there.

After the national park, went down to bald hill and watched people flying remote control gliders in the wind. It was really cool.

Then went down and walked along the new bridge, replacing a crumpled old road that was falling into the ocean. It’s really nice.

Man it was a great day.

CIMG0821.JPG

That’s it for now. I’ll be back soon with more!
